Spectrasol Reagents are based on the use of tertiary amines to neutralize Hydrofluoric Acid prior to ICP and ICP-MS analysis. |
The Spectrasol reagents are aqueous solutions containing tertiary
amines. They were initially developed to neutralize Hydrofluoric
Acid (HF) prior to ICP and ICP-MS analysis. We wanted to avoid
the use of boric acid and fusions since they create a high salt
load that tends to clog and etch precision ICP nebulizers such
as the Meinhard concentric nebulizers. |

|
...Boric acid prevents the precipitation of fluorides ... but
the neutralized HF will still attack glassware and should not
be aspirated into Meinhard nebulizers. From The Handbook of ICP-MS |
